What is CAPTEK™
Captek is a unique “composite metal” or often referred to as an “internally reinforced gold” material which is ideal for crown and bridge restorations. Capillary Technology is used to combine the benefits of gold and the benefits of platinum and palladium in the same system. The hard particles of platinum and palladium are arranged like a skeleton or a metal sponge. The gold is drawn in and through that sponge during the fabrication process. The result is a thin gold coping that is internally reinforced with a skeleton of hard, rigid, thermally stable particles. This is the only material of its kind. It is NOT a cast alloy. It is NOT a foil.

Metal – Free Porcelain Crowns
The indication for a crown is when a tooth is damaged extensively and reconstruction with a filling, an inlay, or a veneer is no longer possible. This is the case when:
- The defect is subgingival
- The tooth has been root-canal-treated (devitalized)
- The tooth is broken off (fractured) in a deep lying area
- Caries or old fillings are widespread throughout the tooth

All-porcelain (ceramic) crowns without metal core are distinguished by their excellent aesthetics. Light is not only reflected, there is also real transparency as seen in natural teeth. This effect makes the all-porcelain crown perfect for use in anterior areas, whereby minor form and alignment corrections are also possible.
A further advantage of the metal-free ceramic crown is the tooth-shaded margin, which need not be placed under the gum line. Thus, the crown margin does not irritate the gingival tissue and prevents gum recession.
Porcelain (ceramic) is an extremely biocompatible material with no allergenic potential. This can be a real advantage to predisposed (allergic) patients.
With smaller defects, limited to the outer surface, we prefer treatment using porcelain facings (veneers), allowing more of the natural tooth to be preserved during preparation.
Progressive development in ceramics brings forth ever stronger materials, such as zirconium ceramic. Therefore, it is now possible to fit metal-free porcelain crowns in the posterior area.
Cergogold
Cergogold restorations not only look like natural teeth, but they also perform like them! The Cergogold system exhibits smooth surfaces and hardness values resembling those of natural teeth. This type of surface has been proven to abrade the antagonists at a natural rate. As with the Golden Gate alloy range, Cergogold can also be veneered with Duceragold porcelain.
Matching the shades of all-ceramic and metal-ceramic restorations in the same patient’s mouth is no longer a problem.
- 20% softer than competing systems
- Fracture and shear resistance better than any other pressable ceramic
- The highest performing low wear restoration when overlaid with hydrothermal porcelain
- Light Dynamic results, no adverse effects under various lighting conditions!

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Premium Dental Laboratory. Premium is a full service dental lab based in Chicago Illinois founded by Mark Val in 1979. From one man in the back of a dental office to fifty people today one thing that has not changed is a dentist’s need for predictable and beautiful restorations from our lab. What has changed dramatically is how those restorations are fabricated and what they are made of. In the beginning a technician waxed and cast then put porcelain on the PFM and sent it doctor. Today we have products and techniques that can make a restoration look more like a natural tooth than ever before. Unfortunately these are not magic and there are many techniques to learn and master to use these products to their fullest potential. Swedging a Captek, designing a CAD-CAM substructure such as a Lava or Cercon, or pressing E-MAX are all very different from PFMs.
Even with all the products and techniques available we at Premium strive to give that “My technician” feel. The way we accomplish this is by teaming a doctor with a ceramist and if it is a PFM one metal technician. If it is another substructure it is insourced to another technician who specializes that product and then back to the doctor’s ceramist. This smal lab consistency and big lab product line allow the dentist to choose the best restoration for each patient confident it was made right.
Please feel free to explore our site and get to know the products and services we provide.
